Background
The purpose of this
committee is to give our Allied members a voice and a means of letting the
Association know how we can best serve them. Getting their input about
exhibiting and sponsorship is important, but we'd also like to know their ideas,
thoughts and concerns about other areas of the Association's work as well.

General Information
The committee distributes quarterly press releases to media outlets in Virginia. The press releases focus on an appropriate topic for the time of year or events that are occuring. The consistent message in all press releases is to direct homeowners to seek profesional pest management services. The committee ensures that the media list is kept current by obtaining an updated media list from the PPMA each year.
The committee also submits a request to the Virginia Governor each year asking him to proclaim April as Pest Managment Month, emphasising the importance of the pest management industry's protection of health and property for the citizens of the Commonwealth.
The committee also establishes local representatives in each region to be prepared to react and resond to any media event.
Current Committee News
A letter was sent to Governor Kaine asking him to declare April as Pest Management Month.

General Information:
The VPMA awards scholarships during the Spring and Fall semesters to graduate students conducting research on issues directly related to the pest management industry. The committee reviews the scholarship applications and awards between 1 -3 scholarships per semester based on the number of qualified applicants and funds available. Both the Central Virginia Pest Management Association and the Southwest Virginia Pest Management consistently donate funds to the VPMA Scholarship Fund to enhance the Association's scholarship program. The committee also conducts fundraisers to support the scholarship program throughout the year.
VPMA’s Scholarship Committee has created an in-house scholarship program that has two facets. The first is each local association will be given 3 vouchers worth $100 off the cost of attending a VPMA meeting of the recipient’s choice. Be sure to attend your local association meetings for a chance to win one of these vouchers.
The other facet of the new in-house scholarship includes scholarships to attend VPMA meetings for small member companies that apply, and meet, as yet undeveloped, guidelines. So watch for more details about these scholarships.
