PermaTreat Walks for a Cure! |
On April 26th, PermaTreat showed their team spirit and walked 3 miles through
historic Fredericksburg, Virginia to fight for a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. After raising $1,300.00 Team PermaTreat
joined 250 other walkers to show their support to the many individuals who are
diagnosed with this debilitating disease each year.

Arrow Exterminators Celebrates 10 Years as Parade Sponsor |
ATLANTA, GA
--- For the past decade Arrow Exterminators' employees have been amusing
spectators on Peachtree Street
by participating in the annual Children's Healthcare of Atlanta® (CHOA) Christmas
Parade. This was an especially exciting year for Arrow
who celebrated their 10th anniversary at the event with over forty enthusiastic
walkers who expertly maneuvered a two story festive balloon down the three mile
route.

There's more than 1 way to manage schools' pests |

Roanoke's school system is focusing on maintenance and cleaning rather than
poisons.

Fairview Elementary School's recent rat infestation has nudged the Roanoke
school system toward more modern methods of dealing with pests.
The school system is putting together what's known in pest-control circles as
an integrated pest management plan. It relies more on building maintenance,
regular cleaning and record keeping than on the liberal use of pesticides.
Instead of hiring an exterminator to apply pesticides regularly, the school
system wants its employees to take on more responsibility for keeping rats,
roaches and other pests out of school buildings.
"The goal is to keep rodents out of the facility and keep it very
inhospitable for them which they [school staff] are completely in charge of,"
said Dini Miller, an entomologist and urban pest specialist at Virginia Tech who
is working with the Roanoke school system. "That is not something your pest
control company can do for you."

Kordek Awarded VPMA Industry Stewardship Award |
VPMA celebrated a milestone at
the Pest Fest event held in Richmond in conjunction with the State Technical
Meeting. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the creation of
the Virginia Pest Management Industry Stewardship Award. This award was created
to recognize individuals for their outstanding service and dedication to the
Association and the pest management industry.
This year the award was presented to Kevin Kordek, of A-Active Termite & Pest Control Co. This year's recipient will
keep company with the likes of David Boose, Joe Wilson, Joe Lupini, Dick Whitman, Bert Dodson, Jr., Bobby
Houchins, Charlie Church, John James and Dr. Eric Smith.
Kevin Kordek stands out in our industry for his passion about ethics, integrity and
the customer; for his ability to motivate and empower his employees; for his
belief in the power of positive thinking to bring about positive results; and
his tireless commitment to doing what he can to make our industry a better one
to work in, to regulate and to do business with. His personal motto is "If you help enough
people in life get what they want; you will always get what you want"!
Kevin Kordek was the truly
derserving honoree of the VPMA Industry Stewardship Award.

Duval & Payne Entrusts Customers to ABC |
After forty-six years of operating Duval & Payne, Inc. Richard Allen has retired and sold the business to Mr. Don
Lenegar of ABC Termite & Pest Control Services. After pondering the
decision for some time, Mr. Allen is confident that he has found the right
person to entrust his customers and good name to. Both Richard and his sister-in-law, Pat Allen, will
work with ABC to introduce Mr. Lenegar and his staff to their business
customers, who he assures, will be in good hands at ABC.
VPMA extends sincere well wishes to Allen and Pat as they

Bert Dodson, Jr. Named 2006 Virginia Small Business Champion |

Lynchburg, VA - Bert Dodson, Jr., President and CEO of Dodson Pest Control, was named in October the 2006 Small Business Champion in Virginia.
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) presented the award. The NFIB is Virginia's largest small business advocacy group.
Dodson serves on the NFIB Virginia Leadership Council, which advises the organization on public policy initiatives impacting small business. He has also been instrumental in organizing the NFIB Virginia Lynchburg Area Action Council, a grassroots activist group connecting small business owners to lawmakers.
