In Memorial: Robert Mathews Jackson |
Robert Mathews Jackson, 79, of Colonial Heights passed away
suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013. He was the sole remaining child of
the late Clyde William and Effie Mae Koonce Jackson. Robert was a U.S. Army
veteran, a 50+ year member of the Masonic Fraternity, an American
Legionnaire (Post 284) and owner of Mutual Termite Control. Robert is
preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Jackson.
He is
survived by his daughters, Tricia Cox (husband Steve) and Tammy Williams
(husband Donny); his son-in-law, Warren "Benny" Edwards, his
grandchildren, Amber Jackson, Josh Cox, Dana Field (husband Nate) and
Tara Shepperson; his great-grandson, Noah Field; and his dear friend,
Betty Hobbs. Robert was a warm, kind-hearted man who made and kept
friendships easily. He genuinely enjoyed life and adored his family. He
was loved and will be missed by many.
His life was
celebrated with a memorial service held at Highland United
Methodist Church on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013. Condolences may be

In Memorial: Robert L. Connor, Sr. |
It is with deep sadness that VPMA announces the passing of Robert L.
Connor, Sr. of Connor's Termite & Pest Control. Robert Louis Connor, 90, of Lake of the Woods and Northern Virginia passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. He was the widower of Florence Connor. He was the loving father of
Robert Jr. (Jane) and Edward (Nancy) Connor; and brother of Earl (Peggy)
Connor. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren.
Robert was a life member of the National Pest Management Association,
Virginia Pest Management Association (VPMA), the Lions Club, the Masons and
the American Legion. Robert also served as president of the VPMA from 1972-1974, and again in 1981.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at
Fairfax Baptist Temple, 6401 Missionary Lane, Fairfax Station. A service will also be held at the Temple on Wednesday, January 23rd at 11 a.m. Interment will be
in Mount Comfort Cemetery.

Keith McCormick Named General Manager of AActive |
Also Elected to Virginia Pest Management Association's Board of Directors
Keith McCormick has been promoted from Operations Manager to General Manager of AActive Termite and Pest Control. He has also been elected to the Board of Directors of the Virginia Pest Management Association (VPMA). He will serve a 2 year term on this board. “Keith is a strong addition to the VPMA Board,” said Kevin Kordek, president and CEO of AActive and past president of the VPMA. “He is a seasoned leader and an advocate for continuing to raise the profile of the pest management industry. Our entire company is proud that he is representing AActive in this leadership role.” McCormick is an Associated Certified Entomologist from the Entomological Society of America, a Virginia Pest Management Association Wood Destroying Organisms Inspector, certified by the Virginia Department of Agriculture in General Pest and Wood Destroying Insects and has completed Purdue University's Pest Management Technology program. He has been in the pest management industry since 1999 and started with AActive in 2005 as a field technician. Prior to the pest management industry he served 8 years in the US Navy as an Aviation Electronics Specialist.

Kevin Kordek Receives Appointment to the Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services |
Kevin Kordek, owner of A-Active Termite and Pest Control Company of Virginia Beach, VA has been named to the Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services by Governor Bob McDonnell.
The Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services is replacing the Pesticide Control Board and Kordek is filling one of the two seats available. The appointment is through June 30, 2016.
"I am truly honored to serve our state and our country," said Kordek. "I will do my best to make the Governor proud that he appointed me."

In Memory of Richard Henry Kiehna |
It is with great sadness that VPMA announces the
passing of Richard Henry Kiehna of Colony Pest Control, Fredericksburg,
VA. Rick was a long standing member of VPMA and he will be sorely
missed. On behalf of the VPMA Board, our members and the pest management
industry our condolences go out to his wife, Candra, and their three
children.
Rick passed away on Sunday, March 18th following a
motorcycle accident in South Carolina. His funeral will be held
tomorrow, Friday, March 23rd in Tennessee. A memorial service will be
held in Fredericksburg on Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Covenant Funeral Home, 4801 Jeff Davis Hwy., Fredericksburg, VA 22408.

Scholarship Committee Extends Appreciation for Contributions |
|
VPMA provides spring and fall scholarships each year to support industry-related research at the Dodson Urban Pest Management Lab. The scholarship fund is supported through member donations, fundraising events and by the generous donation of each of the four local associations in Virginia.
50/50 raffles were held at TPCA's November membership meeting and the TPCA Christmas Party. TPCA donated their share of the proceeds from both raffles to the VPMA Scholarship fund. In addition, the winner of the November meeting 50/50 was David McCormick of Dupont who also donated his winnings. VPMA greatly appreciates the generousity donations. The additional funds ensure that VPMA will be able to continue to suppport future research.

VPAR Lunch & Learn Event a Success |
|
The Lunch & Learn held at the Virginia Peninsula Association of Realtors office on Oct 13th sponsored by the TPCA and VPMA was a huge success. Bob Herget and Tom Mares presented the only approved class in Virginia designed for educating Realtors about the termite and moisture letter. The class was well attended with over 42 participants representing 9 local companies.
