Dr. Dini Miller from the Dodson Urban Pest Management Lab at Virginia Tech will be the primary trainer for this program.
To broaden your entomological experience, the first half of the workshop will walk participants through the identification of the major cockroach pest species and will include the use of reference collections and a taxonomic key to help you identify different cockroaches by their physical characteristics. The morning session will also include a discussion of cockroach biology and behavior.
The highlight will be the second half of the day! We will be breaking into teams and visiting Richmond public housing. At the housing authority, we will learn to implement a novel IPM monitoring and baiting program for German cockroaches that has produced amazing results in highly infested locations. This program completely eliminates asking the housing resident to prepare for treatment or clean up! Try it, you will like it!
