Master Technician: Earn this designation by attending 4 of the 8 Master Technician Pest Groups

The Master Technician Series provides technicians with in-depth, hands-on training using state-of-the art microscopes to learn about biology and identification, plus covers treatment, products and best practices for each pest group. The series of 8 workshops investigate the following major pest groups - Ants, Bed bugs, Blood-feeding Arthropods, Termites, Occasional Invaders, Cockroaches, Rodents and Pest Flies.

At the completion of each workshop, participants will receive a certificate designating them as a VPMA Master in the specific pest group they have attended. Once a technician has mastered four of the pest groups, special recognition will be made at the final workshop designating them as a Master Technician.  Attend these two workshops to get these two species under your Master Technician belt!

STM Admin Conference: Equip your team to build your business.

This is a new conference especially for your team in the office: office managers, CSRs, finance, marketing and call center staff.

You asked for it!

The Admin Track at the State Technical Meeting has been offered 5 times. Feedback received in 2022, indicated that more people would attend the admin track if it were not held at the same time as the STM because someone has to be in the office!

We delivered!

A special committee of people who work in the administration of pest control companies was brought together to design the agenda for this conference.

We will have an in-person event on September 21 in Richmond, followed by 3 90-minute virtual sessions on October 11, November 15 and December 13.

Pest Flies

The first half of the workshop will walk participants through identification, biology and behavior of the major pest fly species. Each participant will use a reference collection of specimens and a taxonomic key to identify different flies by their physical characteristics.  Maggot identification will also be taught.

The second half of the workshop will include:

  • Comparison of filth flies and small flies
  • Inspection for different types of flies
  • Control protocols for pest flies – a discussion of attributes of different control products
  • Prevention protocols for pest flies

Bed bugs

The first half of the workshop will discuss the basics of Bed bug biology, behavior and provide an overview of the importance of monitoring (the future is monitoring!), prevention, and how to maximize the flexibility of your control methods.

The second half of the workshop will include multiple demonstrations including:

  • Cost and efficacy of chamber and whole house fumigation
  • Monitoring
  • Demonstration of new barrier products, coupled with Aprehend.
  • Development of bed bug APM programs for specific situations.
